Research plan number two just left. I have a good feeling about it, since I am not yet bored of the though doing it next spring.
Nevertheless I have some doubts.
First one is the ethics, which I on purpose dropped out from the plan.
I admit I admire both Von Krahl and Smeds Ensemble. This of course does not mean than I admire everything they do. Not at all. Just the basic concept.
Second one, ethics part two: I have a certain hunch about what I´m looking for. But again, I do not know the theatre field so well (anymore) to know what will come up from the financing part and strategies
But yes, we are on unstable field now. Let´s see what kind of feedback I get in Kallio-Kuninkala.
Current feelings:
Have to go to sleep. I should be at work at ten and it´s already four now. 12.30 I have to meet Marja from Foundation to talk about articles I will (maybe) write.
I might be a bit worn out these days.
But at least I feel alive.

20.10.2009 Current issues in Arts Management?
After a very hectic two months, it was time to summarize what is yet on the to-do list before christmas.
First notion: instant shock: HOW IN EARTH I WILL SURVIVE ALL OF THIS?
Second notion: Oh well, at least the subjects are interesting: cultural policy priciples and practices in x country (propably Sweden), group assignment on new Swedish culture policy (in swedish), critical essay about arts management issues...
Tomorrow we are visiting Zeeland Society in Töölö and the most feared place in the World: Culture section of Helsingin Sanomat in Sanoma-building.
Wednesday trip to Malmitalo in Malmi and meeting the director of Malmitalo. On Friday to Music & Media conference in Tampere and finally on Sunday to book fair in Messukeskus (my day off).
Somewhere in between some Workshop arrangements to Night Visions-festival, and meeting with the working group and Spring Awakening-musical in Helsinki City Theatre. And maybe some sleep if I am lucky...

9.9.2009 Helsinki Design Week: Pecha Kucha -night
What: "PechaKucha, sound of conversation in Japanese, is an informal forum for creative people to talk about creative things. The presentation format guarantees that no one will be bored: each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each, giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up." -Helsinki Design Week- pages-
Where? Cable Hall, Cable Factory, Helsinki, Ruoholahti
Why? 25 euros, prize includes the drinks. Drinks and idea sounds good, so why not?
The speakers varied from yet unknown artist (Riitta Ikonen, loved her work!) to very well-known fashion designer (Daniel Palillo), advertisment agency-guru (Ami Hasan) for graphic and other designers from Netherlands (Lotte van Laatum, Marcel te Brake) and for Artek head of design (Ville Kokkonen).
I personally favoured the Palillo presentation, where he introduced us the children´s wear collection he designed years ago as a school project in TAIK. Well, it sounded quite surreal, as school projects aiming to catch some ECTS usually do. While laughing to the t-shirts with texts Star Wars (star overlined) and Super Man (super overlined), I realised that maybe he was also making little bit of joke about himself as an appraised designer and the over-serious design business in Finland (you know, those people dressed in black and heels with over-sized specs and symmetric haircut).
Well, it worked, I laughed more than I would have in Helsinki Comedy Festival (if ever went there).
We Work In A Fragile Material (design group / Sweden)

5.9.2009 Helsinki Design Week: Design Market
What? Annual Helsinki Design Week and its most user-friendly happening: Design Market.
Where? In the Cable Hall of the Cable Factory there was a gathering of designers, design shops and other design-related companies.
Why? There´s a recession going on. Buy more design-stuff to keep the people in the business.
Compared to the last year´s event, the willingness to sell items has increased 100%. Last year the tables were in a less-creative and less-attractive mess and the sellers were just talking to their friends or sulking behind (or under) the desk. This year some of them even tried to take contact to me, even though, due to my recent student-status, I was (definitely) not buying anything.
Last year I bought some clothes from Mieland-company, since they were the nicest guys in the hall (no, I don´t know them personally even though they are from Rovaniemi), and their info-material, table and overall image was well designed.
This year there were some designers selling their very expensive clothes made from recycled cloth and on the next table some other company selling exactly the same things (or ideas) with half the prize.
It kind of reminds me of a flea market where some people overestimate the value of their beloved clothes and in the consequence nobody is buying them. I think with the recycling idea, prizes have to be just a little bit less than with clothes made of new fabrics.
Recycling, traditional fabrics and patterns, woollen socks and shirts, print clothes (!) and pouches and bags were the trends in the market this year - and pretty much the last year too. Where´s the new?
Yep, somebody was actually knitting their products at the place -great idea!
