What: "PechaKucha, sound of conversation in Japanese, is an informal forum for creative people to talk about creative things. The presentation format guarantees that no one will be bored: each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each, giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up." -Helsinki Design Week- pages-
Where? Cable Hall, Cable Factory, Helsinki, Ruoholahti
Why? 25 euros, prize includes the drinks. Drinks and idea sounds good, so why not?
The speakers varied from yet unknown artist (Riitta Ikonen, loved her work!) to very well-known fashion designer (Daniel Palillo), advertisment agency-guru (Ami Hasan) for graphic and other designers from Netherlands (Lotte van Laatum, Marcel te Brake) and for Artek head of design (Ville Kokkonen).
I personally favoured the Palillo presentation, where he introduced us the children´s wear collection he designed years ago as a school project in TAIK. Well, it sounded quite surreal, as school projects aiming to catch some ECTS usually do. While laughing to the t-shirts with texts Star Wars (star overlined) and Super Man (super overlined), I realised that maybe he was also making little bit of joke about himself as an appraised designer and the over-serious design business in Finland (you know, those people dressed in black and heels with over-sized specs and symmetric haircut).
Well, it worked, I laughed more than I would have in Helsinki Comedy Festival (if ever went there).
